Can You Hear Me?
from the series Witnesses
impressions in various clays on slate

Creation of man from clay prevails in folklore as much as it does in religious beliefs. Starting with this premise I’m gifting to the river these symbolic imprints of us in the hope that all our wrongdoings, whether personal or collective, will be washed away and we can start afresh with a clean slate.

obverse and reverse

The making, remaking, fixing and assembling of this medal is my reflection on Agnes Martin’s life and her journey: artistic, geographic and emotional.  It is made deliberately of low fired clay and it's showing traces of all stages it’s been through, a reflection on fragility and strength, a medal that survived.
